Painting Statement
Marks on canvas are very important to me.  When I start painting, I usually never know what the final work will ultimately look like.  I consider myself an abstract expressionist.  But, from time to time, I do paint portraits or representational work.  It seems to center me and allow me to go back to my real love of painting abstractly...clearly, freely and instinctively.  It is important to me to do work that is meaningful to me and represents my own energy and feeling.  Painting is a "happening"  for me. It is the energy between the canvas and myself.  This energy starts developing into an idea and there I go.  An idea will start to form from the color, brush, strokes, and different marks on the canvas.  The excitement for the idea will usually develop into a large body of work.  My new work represent worlds.  I am working with different shapes that mover, shove, get along with each other or just stand still.  They exist.
